Recovering / by Michael Jin

On May 28, 2019, I went into the hospital to get lumbar fusion. A complication with one of the screws going in the wrong direction, an immediate revision surgery, another complication in a spinal fluid leak, a month of bed rest, and a few weeks of physical therapy later, I can say that I feel like I’m on the road to recovery. The past two months have been maddening. The various aches and physical limitations are enough to frustrate a person, but the timing of all of this also meant that I lost out on a lot of income since I missed a bulk of “busy season” in real estate photography. Given the fact that our second child is coming in three weeks, I suppose there wasn’t really an ideal time and I’d rather be recovered enough to help my wife through those early months than make a bit of money and be sidelined while she tries to deal with everything herself. Of course, I wasn’t planning on the complications that set me back so I guess we’ll see how much I can actually help come time… I fell down the other day because my left leg gave out while trying to get up so there’s work yet to be done in physical therapy.

Why am I writing this? I suppose I just needed some place to vent about it all. My wife certainly doesn’t look at this site nor do any of my friends so it’s an easy place to let some stuff out into the universe. Just in case anyone does check up on this website once in a while, I also wanted to give an update as to some of the stuff going so you know why the last post was written in early June.

I hope you are all having a great summer. God bless.
